Daily Photo: Good Old Figment

Back in the old days (that is to say, the early 1980s), a plush Figment from EPCOT Center’s Journey Into Imagination looked a bit different than the later ones for sale at Walt Disney World. The newer plush Figments look a bit more, um, plush than this one. But I still prefer the original, because to me in many ways it looks more like the real Figment from the ride, who isn’t fuzzy at all as the newer plush makes him out to be.

Figment plush from EPCOT Center in Walt Disney World

I bought this Figment back in 1984 at the Centorium in EPCOT Center. Of course, now the shop is known as MouseGear, and the park is known as Epcot. Times have changed. Back then, this Figment cost $10. Add in the 5% sales tax rate of the time, and he was $10.50. I still have the receipt for him at home, believe it or not, as well as the 50 cent piece that I received in change. I kept it because I never had gotten a Kennedy half dollar as change before, and I only have one time since then.

I never did get one of the newer Figments, mainly because I didn’t like the way he looked. But I’m glad I had gotten one of the old ones before the change was made. Ah, the good old days.

About the Photo

It just happened that Figment’s colors perfectly matched the Easter-colors table cloth on our kitchen table. I couldn’t have planned it better. A single RAW file edited in PaintShop Pro. Read more about the photo software I use.
