Photo: Footprints On the Beach

cocoa beach, florida

Footprints fill the sand at Lori Wilson Park in Cocoa Beach, Florida. And there are some other prints and tracks there, too.

On just about every one of our beach visits, I end up taking a photo of footprints in the sand. Sometimes it is in the dry sand, and sometimes it is near the water in the wet sand. But I always end up with one on my memory card, and this past summer’s trip was no different.

Some people have gone this way, some people have gone that way. And here, there are some other prints mixed in with the footprints, too. Tire tracks go from left to right as the lifeguards have been driving their ATV around.

And then the long trail that starts near the right of the frame and goes up is from someone who dragged something all the way out to their beach spot. But I’m sure that wasn’t their plan.

We have often seen people trying to roll wagons, carts, and even wheelchairs out to the beach. However, most of these people all end up learning the same lesson - there aren’t many things that roll well in the sand. Unless you have just the right kind of wheel or the right power pushing it, a wheel won’t do you much good on the soft sand. And these people end up either dragging or carrying their wheeled contraption out to the beach. We even have seen two strong people carry a third person sitting in her wheelchair out to the beach. Because it won’t roll, either.

So maybe that is why you see so many footprints in the sand - because it is hard to beat good old foot power when you are at the beach.
