Laura at the Beach

Laura at the Beach at Cocoa Beach, Florida

Here is Laura enjoying the sun at Lori Wilson Park in Cocoa Beach, Florida. Of course, this was back during the warmer days of summer. And also the days of summer where we could take a vacation. Because if you didn’t know, it is difficult for a teacher to take a vacation during the school year. If “difficult” equals “pretty much impossible.”

Yes, there are such things as substitute teachers, much to the delight of students who consider a day with a substitute to be a “free day,” because often no real instruction occurs on those days. I remember some of those days very well. But a serious teacher dedicated to the profession will only use a substitute when it is absolutely necessary.

That is the kind of teacher that Laura is, which probably is one of the reasons why she still has a teaching job after 19 years. So we wait around until summer to take our vacations, enjoying them when we can get them. And loving every minute of it.
