A Tiki God at the Polynesian Village Resort

A Tiki God at the Polynesian Village Resort at Walt Disney World

In this planting area at the Polynesian Village Resort at Walt Disney World, there is a somewhat hidden tiki god to be found, as you can see near the torch-light pole. That is Ngendei, the earth balancer, who according to myth is the god of earthquakes. Although here, instead of balancing the earth, it appears that he is balancing on the earth, which might make for more earthquakes that way.

Ngendei was originally carved as one of the figures for the preshow area of the Enchanted Tiki Room at Disneyland, as you can see from these photos at StartedByAMouse.com. Several of those figures actually turn up around the Polynesian Village Resort. Or at least they did. I haven’t been there recently to see the final results of all of their recent renovations to see if those old tikis are still found there. Hmm, sounds like it might be time for a field trip!

Yes, I have posted several Polynesian Village Resort photos lately, and I can’t really explain why. Those just seem to be the ones that catch my eye right now when I am looking for a photo to edit and post. This one was actually from way back in 2012, and it was one of those that I found when I was looking for photos to test some things on. This one originally was dark, noisy, and slightly out of focus, so don’t look at it too closely.

Oh, and I hope that torch doesn’t catch the tree above it on fire!
