Lantern at the Polynesian Village Resort

Lantern at the Polynesian Village Resort at Walt Disney World

Lanterns are found along the dock posts to light the way at night at the Polynesian Village Resort at Walt Disney World in Florida.

These lanterns have always interested me in a photographic sort of way, so I am always looking for interesting ways to photograph them when we are there. And in fact, they show up in one of my all-time favorite photos. This time, we happened to be waiting on a boat at the Polynesian dock as the sun was starting to go down, and the golden light on the lantern and on the buildings in the background was just right.

On this trip, I found myself using an off-center composition quite a bit, and this is just one example of that. Of course, some people would tell you that I am always a bit off-center, but it hasn’t always shown up in my photography before now. I guess my true nature is coming out. Oh well, I can’t hide how I am.

Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. - Psalm 119:105

About the photo:
I thought this was as good a time as any to have the f/1.8 lens opened up a bit, because I wanted to make sure that the lantern stood out from the hotel buildings in the background. I think it turned out just right.
A single RAW exposure, processed in Photoshop. Read more about the photo software and gear I use at the camera gear page.
