Laura and Jaylin at Sunset

Laura and Jaylin stand in front of a nice sunset during our cruise on the Disney Dream.

I always hope for some nice sunsets when we go on a cruise, mainly because we had some nice ones during our first cruise several years ago. For this cruise, we finally ended up with a nice sunset on the last night, which seems fitting somehow. It was a little tricky to get a good photo of Laura and Jaylin with the sunset, but I like how this one turned out. Although I have made a note to myself for next time to not have the brightest part of the sunset (that is, the sun) right above Jaylin’s head.

Also, today (the date that this was posted, in case you are reading this in the future) just happens to be Jaylin’s birthday! And he has finally reached his teenage years, believe it or not. Maybe you can believe it, but it almost doesn’t seem to be possible to me. Jaylin is growing up to be a fine young man. And maybe the teenage years won’t be as difficult on the parents as some people make them out to be. Maybe.

And you, my son Solomon, acknowledge the God of your father, and serve him with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind, for the Lord searches every heart and understands every desire and every thought. If you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will reject you forever. - 1 Chronicles 28:9

About the photo:
This would have been a good occasion for a multiple-exposure HDR, but I didn’t have a tripod with me. So instead, I just took the single RAW file and turned the highlights way down and the shadows way up. I also masked in a brighter “exposure” created from the same RAW file to give their faces a little more definition.
A single RAW exposure, processed in Photoshop. Read more about the photo software and gear I use at the camera gear page.
