The Family Beach at Castaway Cay

Once again as with our last cruise, we had a cloudy day at Castaway Cay, although those gray clouds here almost look blue thanks to the magic of photography. And unlike our last cruise, the dark clouds turned to rain clouds right around lunch time. And not just sprinkle clouds, either. Heavy rain that ended up lasting for the rest of the day. Bummer.

So what do you do on a cruise when it rains while you are on the private island? Well first, we waited around for a while for the rain to let up some. Even though most of us had already been wet from being in the water, it is different when the water is cold and falling on you from the sky. We sat under one of the covered seating areas near the food place for almost an hour. Fortunately, we had been there when the rain started, so we didn’t have to go looking for somewhere to stay dry.

Once the rain let up some, we made our way back to the ship, stopping for a few minutes at the island gift shop to get a few things to commemorate our rainy day. And then once we were back on the ship, we decided to take in a movie. The live-action remake of “Cinderella” was playing, and none of us had seen it yet. Apparently, that was a popular choice due to the weather conditions, because we ended up sitting on the second row of the movie theater. But that’s okay. And the movie was actually better than I thought it might be, so it all worked out well.

Fortunately, there are always plenty of options on a Disney Cruise. Even in the rain.

At this point, the rain hadn’t started yet. This was taken while Karen and I were waiting for Laura and Katie to come down one of the water slides, and the boys were off doing something else. And I always like to use the palm trees they have around there for framing whenever I can.
