Walking in Bangkok

Walking in Bangkok

One of the typical street scenes that we saw when we were walking through the streets of Bangkok, Thailand. As we were walking on our prayer walk, I took lots of photos like this, hoping to capture the feel of what it was like walking along these streets. Here are just a few of the memories that this photo brings back:

  • Our typical walking order: As seen here, was Gary leading the way (because he knew where we were going), Adam behind him, and me behind Adam, because I kept slowing down to take photos like this.

  • Just about every kind of road traffic can be seen here: Pedestrians, a motorcycle, a taxi, and even a tuk-tuk can be partially seen between in the background between Gary and Adam. And everyone had the right-of-way, or no one did. You just went and watched out for everyone else, hoping they were also watching out for you.

  • 7-Eleven up ahead of us: Those 7-Eleven stores were everywhere, sometimes right across the street from each other. And we went there often for breakfast items, snacks, bottled water, and whatever else we might need.

  • Cables over the street: I was always fascinated by all of the cables running along and over the streets. I suspect that they were communications cables, such as for telephone and cable television, and not electrical cables. But there were lots and lots of them everywhere.

  • Tall buildings: While many of the side streets were narrow, you could often see a tall building down at the end. And actually, the tall building here is one of the shorter tall buildings.

  • Advertisements: Ads were everywhere. Banners over the street, signs on the buildings, signs on the utility poles, more signs on the buildings. Although you can’t see it here, most of the larger buildings had some sort of large advertisement on it, usually covering the two or three stories closest to the ground.

And as strange and different from home as all of that was, I enjoyed it! It is always interesting to see how things are in places different from where you live!

But He said to them, “I must proclaim the good news about the kingdom of God to the other towns also, because I was sent for this purpose.” - Luke 4:43

About the Photo

The alleys and streets were rather dark, causing the sky to be blown out. This would have been a good use of HDR photography, but that wasn’t the purpose of our walk that morning. So the blown sky remains. Which is how I saw it before my eyes adjusted to the light, too.
