Funnel Vision on the Disney Dream

Everything at Disney has to have a clever name, apparently, so the large video screen on the Disney Cruise Line ships is called Funnel Vision. And as you can see here, the screen is quite large. And it is mounted to the back of the forward funnel, hence the name Funnel Vision.

At various times throughout the day, the screen is used to show Disney movies and cartoons, or sometimes just a slideshow of trivia questions. And occasionally it just shows the Disney Cruise Line logo, as you can see here. The screen is also used in the Pirate Night show, just before the fireworks, too.

For me personally, it can be nice to have something playing up there, but I never end up spending that much time watching it. Sometimes, we may watch part of a movie if we happen to be lounging in one of the deck chairs. But we don’t usually schedule part of our cruise around what is playing on the screen. I think it can be quite pleasant at night, watching a movie out under the stars. And oftentimes at night all of those deck chairs are filled up with people watching the screen, sometimes even if it is sprinkling rain. I would draw the line at sitting out there in the rain, but I guess not everyone does.

They didn’t have these screens on our first cruise way back in 2003, but they have added them since that time. It does add a good bit of energy to the pool area as if it needs any more energy. And it sometimes drives the less energetic cruisers to the quieter, adults-only areas of the upper decks, which is fine, too.

Here’s a little detail that I like:

Disney Dream Funnel Vision

One of Donald’s nephews is peering out one of the porthole windows. That would be Dewey because he is the one who always wears blue. Unless they are pulling a Parent Trap on us and have switched their shirts around. Huey wears red and Louie wears green if you are wondering or aren’t a fan of the DuckTales TV show. You can’t tell it here, but Dewey is looking at his Uncle Donald, who is painted on the bottom of the pool, hence the Donald’s Pool name of this particular pool. It even somewhat resembles the shape of Donald’s foot. Just one of the many little touches that remind you that these are Disney ships.

About the Photo

Although it might not show, I spent too much time on this photo. I never really understood what people meant when I used to see them say that, but these days, I completely get it. I layered in three different “exposures” from the original Raw file here to bring out the blue sky and the darker foreground, and all of that took some time. And looking at it again now, I still see some more things I would work on if I had more time to do it.

Sometimes I wonder if it is really worth it to go to that trouble. But when I compare the finished photo to the original photo that came out of the camera, I like this final version much better than the original. So yes, it is definitely worth it to me, even if it may just look like a quick photo that I posted to you.
