Walking Around the World at Walt Disney World

We aren’t the kind of people who like to just sit around and not do anything. On the contrary, we prefer to be active whenever we can. Within reason, of course. Sometimes active time brings about nap time later, and that’s okay. But we do enjoy getting out and doing things, especially if we are on vacation and those things are something that we are not able to do back home.
Because walking is our speed, we enjoy taking a walk on the Walk Around the World path at Walt Disney World. If you aren’t familiar with it, this walkway surrounds most of Seven Seas Lagoon near the Magic Kingdom, although you can’t quite go all the way around. More on that in just a bit.
As you can see, there weren’t many people out while we were walking. The people that you do see here are Laura and Jaylin, just in case you didn’t know. For this photo I was looking in the opposite direction of the photo above, and you can see the same Monorail has made its way farther along down the beam here. We rarely see anyone out on this part of the path, which is probably largely due to the fact that it doesn’t go anywhere. And it might be a little difficult to find, because you have to go past (or sort of through) one of the boat docks at the Magic Kingdom to continue on the trail. If several people are waiting for a boat to arrive, you have to excuse yourself past them without them thinking that you are trying to get on the boat ahead of them. If you say, “Excuse me, I am just walking on the path,” they will at first look at you funny because they did not realize there is a path there, and then they will let you pass right on by.
As you walk along the path, you can hear some of the sounds from the Magic Kingdom, or the sound of a passing boat going to or from the Grand Floridian, which you can see in the above photo. Or if you walk the other way past the Magic Kingdom, you will arrive at the Contemporary Resort. There is another piece of the path that runs from the Polynesian Village Resort past the Wedding Pavilion and on to the Grand Floridian, by the way, but we don’t walk that one as often for whatever reason.
As I mentioned above, the walkway doesn’t really go anywhere. In fact, it comes to a dead end well short of the Grand Floridian, thanks to the canal that runs from Seven Seas Lagoon back up into the Magic Kingdom’s backstage service area and on into the Rivers of America inside the park. At the dead end are some benches, and you can see Laura and Jaylin taking advantage of the benches in the above photo. You can sit and enjoy the view, or you can sit and ponder, “Why did I walk all the way out here when this doesn’t go anywhere?” And then you can start your walk back after you have rested for a few minutes. Fortunately, we knew about the dead end before we ever went out there the first time, but I suppose I can imagine how some people who didn’t know might be disappointed. Maybe that is why the path isn’t marked with a big sign or anything, to avoid leading some people down the trail to disappointment, figuratively or literally.
But if you enjoy a nice, relaxing walk as we do, you just might want to check out the Walk Around the World path. Because even though it is right in the middle of all of the Disney theme park and resort craziness, it sometimes feels like you are far away from it all, out in your own little quiet corner of the world.

About the photos:
I purposefully gave these photos a little bit of what I consider to be a fantasy look - bold colors, slightly soft at times. The late afternoon light filtering through the clouds contributed nicely to the look that I was going for here, too. I cropped these to a 16:9 ratio to give them a somewhat cinematic look, and also to be just a little different from what I have posted before.
And if you are wondering, those light posts don’t really curve like that. That effect is just a result of the fisheye lens. Rest assured that those are perfectly straight poles, just like you would expect them to be.
