A Day at the Zoo

Yesterday, I went to the Memphis Zoo with Jaylin’s third grade class, along with the other third grade class as well. It was fun.

No, really, it was fun. Sure, there were third graders everywhere. And some of the ones that I was responsible for kept wandering away, evidently not knowing of my habit to stop and take pictures of most every animal we saw. Can’t blame them for that, really, although they still hadn’t quite figured it out by the end of the day.

There were the usual questions of, “What is that smell?” That was asked for just about every animal we saw. Except for the dinosaurs, which obviously weren’t real and didn’t have any real animal smells to go with them.

We saw elephants, giraffes, monkeys, zebras, hippos, bears, wolves, otters, ostriches, bats, snakes, insects, jaguars, cheetahs, tigers, and more. And lots of other school kids, too.

But we didn’t lose anyone. Everyone had a lunch to eat. The weather was perfect - not to cool, not too warm, nice and sunny. And overall, everyone was well behaved. Even the adults.

Although I must say that once it was all over and I got to the office to do a little work, it certainly was nice and quiet there. And nice. And quiet.

But still, I’m glad I went.
