Marshall County Courthouse

Marshall County Courthouse in Mississippi

The sun sets behind the Marshall County Courthouse in Holly Springs, Mississippi.

When we find ourselves in cities and towns that turn out to be the county seats, it is always interesting to see the courthouse building. In many small southern towns, the courthouse sits in the middle of the town square. And although each courthouse looks different, most of them have similar features.

Here, the colors of the sky were just too much to pass up. And their winter grass was nice and green, too. I’m not used to having that much green in a winter photo.

As with the Marshall County Courthouse above, most of the courthouses I have seen have multiple stories, and most all of them are topped by a clock tower. Interestingly, the clock in this photo is nowhere near the correct time, but that is a minor point. Also, the clock towers at the top of the courthouses always make me think of Back to the Future. I don’t know why.
