Christ Church Cathedral in Nassau
The interior of the Christ Church Cathedral in Nassau, Bahamas.
When our Disney cruise stopped at the port of Nassau, Bahamas, we went exploring around the town for a while. In our walk, we came across an interesting church building, Christ Church Cathedral. The sign outside said that visitors were welcome, and the door was open, so we went inside. Because it was a Monday, no services were going on, so we were free to wander around the sanctuary.
It was a beautiful building with many stained glass windows and even a large pipe organ, which Jaylin was hoping someone would play. But there wasn’t anyone there to play it. I liked the Alpha and Omega windows high up in the walls.
You can read about the history of Christ Church Cathedral on its website. But there you will find that the church was founded in 1670, and the current building was constructed in 1841, and the sanctuary pictured here was built in 1861. Pretty cool!
We were all glad that we had wandered in. Who needs shore excursions when you can find your own fun?
