Tombstones in the Fall

Old tombstones stand among fallen leaves in a cemetery in Williston, Tennessee. To me, the dying leaves seem to frame the tombstones perfectly.

I had mentioned in my Fall Colors in Tennessee post about stopping at a cemetery near our house for photos, and this photo comes from that cemetery. Many of the tombstones have been there for quite a while, such as this one, and it is difficult to read the information on them. I know these people are important to someone, but to me the photo is more about the atmosphere found here, as I don’t have any personal connections to anyone resting in this cemetery.

However, as Thanksgiving is approaching, this photo does remind me of those who are not here for Thanksgiving dinners any more, those who have gone on to their eternal rest. In particular, I am thinking of, and thankful for, my grandfathers and the great memories I have of them while they are still here. And we also think of Laura’s parents as well, and all the memories we have of them.

Times to be together with family are good, although they do remind us of those who aren’t there. But we can still be thankful for the times that we had with them. And we can be thankful that they helped us get to where we are today.
