Looking Back: EPCOT Center in 1987

This installment of Looking Back looks at EPCOT Center from the summer of 1987, long before the name was shortened to the more generic and less exciting “Epcot.” For whatever reason, I didn’t take all that many photos of EPCOT Center on this particular trip, and several of the ones that I did get turned out to be rather poor quality. So here are some of the better ones.

Let’s begin with Spaceship Earth. Sure, you can still see Spaceship Earth at Epcot any time. But you can’t see it with the back of the Horizons sign in the foreground. Probably not the best photo composition, but I like how it shows a bit of what isn’t there any more.

The Bird and the Robot Show was found in Transcenter at World of Motion, and in the show an Audio-Animatronic bird told about the use of industrial robots in automobile construction, while “Tiger” demonstrated some of what he could do. I always enjoyed it.

Dreamfinder! From the original Journey into Imagination, of course. Not the best photo of him, but the best of what I have of him. Wouldn’t it be nice if they would bring him back? Yes, it would.

These guys used to perform in Germany in World Showcase. I’m sure they had a name, but I don’t remember what it was. These days, so many of the live performances are set up to be big stage shows, but I always enjoyed the strolling musicians better.

Dragons in World Showcase Lagoon! This was actually from the Skyleidescope show performed at World Showcase Lagoon, and it featured all kinds of boats and jet skis out in the water, as well as some ultralight aircraft up in the sky. The show only lasted for a couple of seasons, however, and I only saw it this one time.
