Daily Photo: Storm at Night

A storm in the sky at night

Over the last weekend, we had some thunderstorms associated with Hurricane/Tropical Storm Isaac. The actual storm went around us instead of right over us, but we still did get some rain, thunder, and lightning. And most of what we got was at night.

On Sunday night, there was a big storm with lots of lightning. The actual storm went to the south of us, but it still put on a good show. The lightning was almost continuous, all through the southern sky, as it jumped between the clouds.

I went outside to try to get some photos of it, and I really liked how this one showed the storm to the south, complete with some lightning bolts, but right above us was clear sky and stars. If you are wondering, the light in the foreground is coming from the lamp post in our front yard. This was around 9:00 PM, so it was good and dark outside.

Be sure to click on the photo for a larger view that shows a bit more of the detail, and a better view at the lightning in the clouds.
