Looking Back at Disney from Burnsland!

Remember what the Disney parks were like back in the good old days? Join us as we take a stroll down memory lane in photos from the Burnsland collection.

I began taking photos at the parks in 1987, back when there were only two Walt Disney World parks. And I have continued taking photos on each of our visits since that time. Things have changed over the years, so this is a way to document the way things were.

Looking for a specific park? Check out posts from Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney-MGM Studios (now known as Disney's Hollywood Studios, and Disney's Animal Kingdom.

Our July 2003 Walt Disney World visit continues with a day at Disney-MGM Studios. This particular day happened to be our 10th wedding anniversary, although we would actually do more celebrating a few days later on our first Disney Cruise. Also, we only spent a few hours at Disney-MGM Studios before going on to Epcot for the evening, so there were not quite as many photos to choose from for this park.

Our visit to Walt Disney World in July 2003 for our 10th anniversary continues with a visit to Epcot. The “Center” from the original name of EPCOT Center was long gone, and the rest was capitalized normally, so that the park was now known just as Epcot, since that is what everyone called it anyway. And in case you forgot the name, there was a big reminder of it. Once again, as with our Magic Kingdom visit on this same trip, I took lots and lots of photos with my new digital camera.

For this episode of Looking Back at Disney, we jump forward in time from the previous posts of October 1996 all the way to July 2003, starting with a visit to the Magic Kingdom. This was a “land and sea” vacation, which combined a Walt Disney World visit with a Disney Cruise, which would be our first cruise. And it was all in honor of our 10th wedding anniversary! Also, this was the first trip where I had a digital camera.

It is time for another visit to Disney-MGM Studios, this time in October 1996. Today, we know the park as Disney’s Hollywood Studios, but this was long before the name change. It appears that we did not spend all that much time in Disney-MGM Studios on this park, or at least I did not take that many photos during our visit for whatever reason. But let’s take stroll down memory lane and enjoy some of that Florida sun!

Today, we take a look back at our visit to Epcot at Walt Disney World in October 1996. The 25th Anniversary celebration was not quite as evident at Epcot as it was at the Magic Kingdom, but then Epcot had only been open for 14 years, and it was not meant to be the focal point of that celebration. Here is what we saw during our trip. Spaceship Earth is always a good place to start at Epcot, since it is right at the main entrance.

Although we had just been to Walt Disney World in June 1996, Laura and I returned to Florida in October 1996 for another visit. There were several reasons for this trip, but one of them was because Walt Disney World began celebrating its 25th anniversary on October 1, 1996. That seems like a long time ago now that they have already had the 50th anniversary, doesn’t it? Here are some photos from the Magic Kingdom during that trip.

For this Looking Back post, we take a break from the theme parks and turn our attention to the Walt Disney World Resorts in June 1996. We stayed at one resort during our trip, and we visited several others. And I just happened to take a few photos along the way. Hang on to your hats for a whirlwind tour! Dixie Landings For this visit, we stayed at the Dixie Landings Resort.

Continuing in our June 1996 visit, this time around we visit Epcot. Epcot had lost its original name of EPCOT Center a few years earlier, and more changes were going on during our visit. We did not spend all that much time in Epcot during this visit, and because of that there are not that many photos in this post. But some photos are better than none, so here we go!

This time around, we are visiting Disney-MGM Studios in June 1996. Of course, many years later, this park became known as Disney’s Hollywood Studios, which is its current name. But back in 1996, the MGM portion of the name was still going strong. And in that year, Disney-MGM Studios had some new additions. Check out the photos below! One of the recent additions at Disney-MGM Studios was the Hollywood Tower Hotel, home of the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror.

Laura and I took a trip to Walt Disney World in June 1996. We actually visited the Magic Kingdom on two separate days during our trip (Remember back when there were only 3 parks? Or even further back when there were only 2 parks? Or only one park? Okay, so the one park days were before my time.). During our visits, we had some sun and some rain, just what you would expect from Central Florida weather.
