I never knew that CGA had a railroad at one time, could somebody please tell me where it went?
The Great America Scenic Railway was one of the original attractions at the Great America in CA and it opened with the park in 1976. It was closed and then removed in 1999, right after Stealth opened. Note that Stealth's construction was not the cause for its removal. The Vekoma Flying Dutchman coaster operated just fine with the trains underneath it and in fact Paramount Parks paid a rather large sum to have its support structure designed specifically to allow the trains to pass underneath. (According to Vekoma's David Vatcher whom I chatted with at Stealth's media day.) I snapped several photos of the train slowly rolling underneath Stealth after the coaster was in operation during a normal operating day.
The Custom Fabricators trains and cars went to Florida after their removal from Great America. They appeared on the DF Barnhardt website for sale for quite some time but then they disappeared. I don't know if they were sold and I don't know who in Florida had owned them.
I have a few photos of the trains both in the park and when they were up for sale in Florida. I'd love to also know what happened to them.
