Anyone interested in "Sarge" from cars?

Post by p51 »

As a WW2 Jeep owner, I have more than a passing interest in the character of "Sarge":
Image
I thought I had every "Sarge" item there was until my wife and walked into the Disney Store in Portland this afternoon. I found two metal "Sarge" toys, one was pretty large, the other was slightly larger than the now recalled "hot wheel size" ones. The larger one has sounds from the movie and was $10, the other was all metal and was $5.50.
If you have one of these stores nearby and like this stuff, I'd suggest hitting it soon!
The photo I got shows them well. Not included are the other items I have, including the three known keychains and the dog tag set. I'm sure there's probably more stuff out there that I haven't heard of, but I doubt there's too much more of it.

The larger one on the stand and the one in the row to the far right are the ones I'm talking about. The second one from the right is not one of the dice cast ones, that one is plastic, and it came in a set of other characters. You can tell it and the new metal one are very close in size and both are larger than the one you used to be able to find sometimes In stores. The one to the left is the easiest of all to find and I have seen plenty in Wal Mart stores. It also comes in a "MP" and Halloween variants, but I only included the ones like you'd see in the film.
Note that the middle two have "USA" above the hood number, which is not how Sarge appears in the film. He only has a # in the movie...

One of the things that caught my eye when the characters were first announced was the lack of blackout light on the fender.

I'll have to track down these toys. My wife will probably question why I need more of them :)

Well, if you want to get technical, there are all kinds of things missing from the finished character, such as the axe and shovel on the driver side, windshield wipers, the rare use of an "artic top" among other things. I did like the use of blackout running lights on the front grills, though. I have the "Art of Cars" book and it says that Sarge was the only character from the original story to make it to the final film. I know three WW2 Jeep owners who swear theirs was the Jeep they used for the character model. They might all three be right (maybe the designers wanted to see a few Jeeps to be sure one didn't have unusual details) but I wouldn't want to get them all together as there would be one heck of a fight over who's Jeep was "The" model for the character!

I just found what appears to be the only Disney made Sarge pin they have yet made: http://eventservices.disney.go.com/pint ... n?id=42975 I scored one off eBay yesterday. It’s larger than I could have thought it’d be. With “Cars 2” in the works right now, I think we can expect more Sarge stuff in the future. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cars_2 I’ve given up the idea of having one of everything of the character now that I know that items are being marketed outside the US. I’ll get what I can, though.

Been a while, but in case anyone cares, more Sarge stuff is coming out these days. Got some new book cases for the military room last week. I decided to make three short display shelves, one of which has nothing but Jeep toys on it. Sarge stuff is to the left but I have since gotten more items with that character there:

I found that the character is made for the Fisher Price Geotrax line as well: http://www.fisher-price.com/fp.aspx?st= ... &pid=49337 I found one of these at the local Target store over the weekend. They also had the “Sarge boot camp” full-sized box set, but the Sarge that comes with it is the same that has been released already so I didn’t get it as I don’t display them in the packages anyway. I know the character is made in those plastic “charms” that kids put on their shoes as well, and I have a set of them coming, but I can’t say if they’re actually licensed products or not.

I also found a comic book this week with a nice depiction on the cover:

Nice! I found a saluting sarge last weekend, he is a chase piece of the diecast cars toys. Now I need to get him an American flag and display them.

There's a "pit crew" set that has Lightning McQueen, Filmore and Sarge, the latter two have gas cans. I found that at Toys "B" Us today. There's also a "color change" group of cars now, and Sarge is one of them. Haven't seen any in stores yet but they're all over eBay now, so I'm bidding on one at this time.
If this keeps up, that shelf will only have Sarges on it!

I found a pit crew sarge in a single pack. I also saw the color changers at Wal-Mart, as well as Toys R US. If you don't win on those I can keep an eye out for you, my wife looks for me even though she gives me crap for collecting them :D

I appreciate the news and the offer. I scored one off eBay for not too much so I’m fine. I’ve only ever seen maybe 5 of these in any stores on their own, most of the die cast one I’ve gotten came to me from online sources.

Yesterday was my lucky day. At the local Target, I found the individual one with gas can as well as the color change one. I bought them both of course. Never seen more than one ever. I think that this character is no longer being packed one to a case. It used to be impossible to find them in stores, especially after the recall.
