Here are some questions that I know everyone wants answered!
Q: What happened to the original site?
A: The original site, which was titled BurnsWorks, was hosted by a company called Freeservers.com. It was great fun for a good while. But then in the late part of 2001, they decided to cut the amount of free space they offered while instituting file size limits and increasing the pop-up ads they displayed. Of course, you could pay for more space, but it goes against my principles to pay for something that used to be free. And I had been approaching the limits of my space before they cut it. I had also recently started having high quality desktop wallpaper images, which were over the file size limits. So I decided to start looking elsewhere. Fortunately, Matt Walker and StartedByAMouse.com helped out by hosting a few things during the transition period.
After doing a good bit of searching, I came across the fine folks at ChristianWebHost.com. I really liked what they had to offer for the price, so I signed up with them. If you came here from the old site, please be sure to update your bookmarks to the new site.
Q: Why Burnsland.com?
A: Once I signed up with ChristianWebHost.com, I attempted to register BurnsWorks.com. I thought it was a rather snappy name, especially since I had been using BurnsWorks as the title of my old site. As it turns out, someone had already registered BurnsWorks.com, although they don't appear to be using the domain. So the search was on for a new name. For a while, most of the ones I tried were taken, but then I finally settled on Burnsland.com. Some people may think it sounds rather silly, but I prefer to think of it as whimsical. Of course, there is a fine line between silly and whimsical. There is also a fine line between bravery and stupidity, but that is another subject for another time.
Q: Did you create all the graphics?
A: Yes, all the graphics were created by me, except for logos which are links to other sites. And except for the few cases noted, all the pictures were taken by me as well. The non-photograph graphics were created with, among other things, AutoCAD, Adobe Photodeluxe, and even Windows Paint.
Q: What HTML editor did you use?
A: I created the site with Windows Notepad, just a very basic text editor. Those fancy HTML editing programs are sometimes nice, but I often can't get them to do what I want to do. It is easier for me to just edit the HTML with a text editor. I recently re-coded the site using cascading style sheets, but hopefully you won't really notice a difference. The text style may look a little different, but other than that everything should be the same.
Q: Is this an official Disney site?
A: No. This site is completely unofficial. No affiliation with Disney is implied. However, all attraction names, park names, characters, etc. are © Disney.
Q: Do you live near Walt Disney World?
A: No, I live in western Tennessee. But I have been visiting Walt Disney World since 1983. And I have been to Disneyland 3 times, in 1993, 1995 and 1997.
Q: Do you work for Disney?
A: Not any more. I worked at a Disney Store from 1993 to 1999. Those were quite fun times, but unfortunately they had to come to an end.
