Snow! added 2/20/04 photos taken February 15, 2004 by Steve & Laura Burns
Today we celebrate a somewhat rare occasion - snow at the Burnsland Ranch! We do get
snow from time to time, but this was the biggest one we have had in a while. Come join
the fun! |
|
As we were going to bed, it was raining outside.
The weather forecasts were calling for a chance of snow. But we had heard it all before,
and most every time that snow is predicted, we don't get any. So imagine our surprise
when we woke up the next morning to this! You can see how the snow is weighting down
the pine branches.

Here is another view of the snow. You can see
how the snow is accumulating on the fence wires. At this point, it was still coming
down pretty hard. I think we had about 3 inches by this point.

I always enjoy pictures of snowscapes. As
much as I like pictures with vibrant, stunning color, I occasionally enjoy something
in stark contrast to that, and snow pictures usually provide that contrast. The snow
covers most everything in white, and the sky is gray with clouds. The main hint of color
is from the evergreen trees, and even those have a heavy layer of white over them.
Just part of the beauty of nature, the changing of the seasons.

This picture shows how the house was covered
with snow. And you can also see the snowflakes in front of the house. Sometimes snow is
difficult to catch in a picture. I know this isn't as drastic as some of the snows
up north, and it isn't the biggest snow we have had in this area. But any measurable
snow around here is still pretty exciting.

Just another snowscape looking out across the
yard. This was after the snow had stopped coming down, and all the snow had fallen
off the pine tree branches. Amazingly, 30 miles away in town, they hadn't received any
snow at all. So that gave us something fun to tell everyone at church that morning.

Not much interesting to say about this picture.
But that's okay, because this isn't the
Words section. This is more about the pictures. You can see the tire tracks that we
made on our way out and in, as well as some footprints left by the dog.

|
Once we were able to, we did what any thirtysomething
couple would do - we built snowmen! Laura built the one on the left, while I built the
one on the right. Hers ended up standing much longer than mine did. And mine has that
Ronald Reagan/Gumby hair thing going on. Because we don't get much snow, we don't have
much practice in building snowmen.
|
|
We then did the other thing that any
thirtysomething couple would do - we threw snowballs! Nothing like getting hit in the
face with a big cold glob of snow. The dog enjoyed chasing the snowballs, and would even
bring them back to us from time to time.

|
So that's it for our day in the snow. It was fun while it lasted. And since we don't know
when we might get another one, we made the most of it!
