Iron Spike Room

Tucked away inside the Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge at Walt Disney World is the Iron Spike Room, a quiet room where guests can read, play checkers or chess, or just spend some times to themselves.

On the walls are a few pictures of Walt's Carolwood Pacific Railroad, as well as a few other general railroad pictures, and the fireplace has a nice screen with some train artwork on it. But the main drawing point of the Iron Spike Room are two of the original cars from the Carolwood Pacific. On display in a glass case are a cattle car and a gondola. The intricate detail on these eighth-scale cars is fascinating to see in person, and viewing the cars gives another glimpse at the care and attention Walt showed to his backyard railroad.

The Villas, part of the Disney Vacation Club, are located adjacent to the Wilderness Lodge, just a few steps away from the bus stop. The Iron Spike Room is just off the lobby, which itself is interesting to look at. Be sure to notice the animal carvings at the ends of the poles, as well as the different moons. The storyline behind the Villas is that it was a hotel built for the railroad workers who were building the first Transcontinental Railroad through the forrested wilderness of the west. So it is fitting that the Villas are now home to a part of the Carolwood Pacific Railroad.
