A Pond in the Sun

A Pond in the Sun at Pinson Mounds State Park in Tennessee.

The sun reflects off a pond at Pinson Mounds State Archaeological Area in Tennessee.

On our trips to different places, we like to find things to see that are somewhat off the beaten path. Instead of just jumping out of our car to go see something before jumping back in the car to drive to the next thing, we like to wander around and see what else there is to be seen. And that is how we found this pond at Pinson Mounds.

The main area around the Pinson Mounds Visitors’ Center has several mounds around it. But there are a few more mounds that are a little farther away. They do show up on the park map, but there isn’t a walking trail that leads to them. To get to those mounds, we had to walk along the road leading out of the park, and then our walk took us off of the road and along the bank of this small pond.

We did eventually find those other mounds, but I thought that the sun reflecting off the water and the lily pads in this pond made for a rather interesting view, too. And it was a reminder of the great blue sky and wonderful weather that we had that day.
