Evening at the Polynesian
Notice anything new?
Here is the first “official” photo from our recent Florida trip. And from this point on you may notice something different as far as the photos go. But more about that on another day.
Evening at the Polynesian
During our trip, we actually stopped by the Polynesian Resort at Walt Disney World a couple of times. It is one of our favorites, after all. And it is hard to beat the views around the resort in the evening as the sun is going down, such as the view of this palm tree near the boat dock. I am also fascinated by those lanterns, and I try to get them in my Polynesian Resort photos as often as possible. Maybe I should install some around our home.

Where Are You From?
On one of our Polynesian Resort visits, we were checking out after shopping in one of the shops. Because, you know, we want to pay for stuff instead of just walking out the door with it. While she was helping us, the cashier cast member made some small talk.
She asked, “So, where are you from?”
“Memphis, Tennessee,” we replied. Even though we don’t actually live in Memphis. Because if you say Williston, Tennessee, no one at all knows where you are talking about. That even goes for people in Memphis.
“Oh,” she said. “There in those beautiful mountains!”
At that point, I really didn’t know what to say. Because if you aren’t familiar with Tennessee geography, there are no mountains anywhere near Memphis. We are in the Mississippi River Delta, which is really, really flat, except for some small rolling hills. But no mountains. Yes, there are mountains at the opposite end of the state, but those are about 400 miles away, more or less. So I just said, “No, the mountains are at the opposite end of Tennessee.” But she really didn’t reply to that, probably because by that point she was concentrating more on getting the card reader to read my card.
I really wasn’t upset by her comment. In fact, I thought it was pretty funny. But maybe not all that funny, because I may not know all about geography, either. I looked at her nametag to see that she was from some state up north. And all I know about those states is that they are basically solid ice for ten months of the year, because it is so cold once you get up past Kentucky or so, right?
Maybe I shouldn’t enter the geography bee, either.
