As you might guess, we were out in the middle of Bay Lake when I took this photo. No, we didn’t swim out there or anything. We were in a boat. Just in case that doesn’t go without saying, I said it. We were riding from the Contemporary to the Wilderness Lodge, and as the boat left the Contemporary we had a good view of both of the towers there, along with some neat clouds in the sky.

There is just something about water that makes a photo all the more interesting, I think. Maybe because you can’t find a large body of water just anywhere. Yes, it is easier to find lots of water if you live near the ocean or near a big lake, but that doesn’t apply to all of us. And if you can have the water in the foreground, that makes it even more interesting to me, such as this view here.

When they first started building the Bay Lake Tower a few years ago, I was a little skeptical, wondering if it would take away from the cool experience of the original Contemporary tower. While the new tower is quite large, it really doesn’t change much at all from the original building. The Monorail still goes through the old tower like it always has, and you can still see the old building from all over. Even though the new building is at least as tall as the old one, the original is still what draws your eye at first sight.

About the photo:

As usual, I used a good bit of processing on this one to make it look good. Couldn’t let those nice clouds and the blue sky go to waste, after all. And all that water, too.

However, this time around there isn’t the standard before-and-after comparison to share, because this one was a little more tricky. I shot this with the fisheye lens, which might surprise you slightly because it doesn’t have the standard fisheye look. That is because I used the lens correction function in Photoshop to smooth it out a bit, which also resulted in a good bit of cropping. The standard before-and-after photo that I post would be rather confusing. So instead, here is a look at the “before” version all by itself, without any of the “after” added in.
