Disney Dream Across the Bay at Castaway Cay

Because last week we had a very cold winter spell, it is time for another warm weather photo to help brighten things up.

Castaway Cay

Disney Dream Across the Bay at Castaway Cay

In this photo from our 2017 Disney Cruise, the Disney Dream is docked across the way at the Disney Cruise Line’s Bahamas island of Castaway Cay. Just look at that inviting sand and nice blue water. And yes, some clouds, too.

Although it was much warmer then than it is right now, it was actually not quite as warm as we were expecting, thanks to those clouds. But at least we did not have to worry about getting too hot while we were there. Of course, if we had gotten hot we could have cooled off in the water.

The ship either looks quite tiny or farther away than it actually was, thanks to the distortion of the fisheye lens that I used for this photo. But I really liked how the lens brought out the curve of the shoreline around the water. And even though they brought cooler weather and some rain, I really like the clouds here, too.

After all, you might as well learn to like what you really can’t control, right?

By the way, you can see lots more from our cruise at the 2017 Disney Cruise Trip Report, if you have not read the full trip report already.

Ice Ice Baby

Speaking of things that you can’t control, the cold weather (that I mentioned in the previous post) lingered on for all of last week. Take a look at this photo:

Ice from the water trough

All of that ice in the foreground is what we pulled from the horses’ water trough last week. Our usual routine is to pour in a bucket of hot water, break up the ice, and throw it over the fence. Usually, the ice melts after a while. But when the temperatures do not get above freezing, the ice doesn’t go anywhere besides the ice pile. And we kept adding to it all week long. Too bad there is not a market to sell ice in the winter.

It is not usually cold enough for long enough here to need a water trough heater. However, last week was the exception to that rule. But we were holding out for slightly warmer weather and did not bother to look for our old heater. At least maybe all of this cold weather is taking care of all of the mosquitoes and ticks that we had last summer. One can hope, right?

Interesting Thought

A man walked into a bar. He said, “Ouch! Who put that bar there?”

Bible Verse

The righteous one rejoices in the Lord and takes refuge in Him; all those who are upright in heart will offer praise. - Psalm 64:10

About the photo

The Castaway Cay photo was another one of those rather dull photos that I spruced up a bit in processing. Lighter tones, brighter colors, more saturation. And yes, more contrast in the clouds, too. Because you can’t just pretend that it was not a cloudy day, right?

The water trough photo, however, was just a quick photo with my phone. It had to be quick because I couldn’t keep my glove off for very long due to the temperature only being 12 degrees Fahrenheit.
