Re: Walter E. Disney leaving
It's a good question. The Maud L was in Paul Boschan's shop beginning in the fall of 2004, and it emerged as the Ward Kimball pulling it's first train less than a year later. That engine was completely rebuilt from the ground up, including an all-new boiler and new driver centers and tires. There a...

Re: Boiler pressure/firing practices
A 20 psi difference is still pretty big. Boilers like consistency. The fuel will need to be turned up when the engine is running so the fire isn't chuffed out, but if it is not turned up enough, the pressure will drop. Everything I read and oil burner fireman I know talk about keeping a 5-10 psi dif...

Boiler pressure/firing practices
When I was visiting a couple weeks ago, I sat right behind the engine and could see the pressure gauge. I saw that between stations the pressure would drop about 50 psi, down around 100 psi, and then climb when stopped at the station. I saw this on two different engines. Is this practice, letting th...

Re: Lilly Belle is finally home!
Just remember that the engineer on Gettysburg 1278 was very experienced (by years that is) and still didn't know how to properly blow down a sight glass and didn't recognize a problem when the water in the glass maybe moved 1/2" while the engine was working uphill for 10 or so minutes with the ...

Re: Lilly Belle is finally home!
From a liability standpoint I could understand why they would want computerized systems on the engine. If the engine crew forgets to turn on the injector, the water level could drop out of the glass. If the engine crew doesn't notice that the glass is reading a false high level, the water valve wasn...

Re: Lilly Belle update?

Re: Lilly Belle update?
Why? If the running gear is done, she would just need to be re-assembled.
