The Love Bug at Disney's All-Star Movies Resort
Hello, Herbie!
Herbie the Love Bug is in the Winner’s Circle in the center court of the Love Bug section of the All-Star Movies Resort at Walt Disney World. This photo was from the 2019 Band and Chorus Disney Trip, where we stayed in the Mighty Ducks section of All-Star Movies.
As someone who enjoys what are now considered the “older” movies, I liked that Herbie the Love Bug was included at All-Star Movies. His last movie appearance was in Herbie Fully Loaded in 2005, which of course was 15 years ago. That is a pretty long time now, especially to the teenagers that I was there on the trip with.
But then Herbie’s first movie appearance was in 1969, which is 51 years ago now. And you thought that 15 years is a long time to a teenager! That movie is even older than I am! Although not by that much.
A Different Look
Here is another view of the scene from slightly farther back. I like the checkerboard surface in front of Herbie. The palm trees behind him are neat, too, as are the giant wrenches and checkered flags on the buildings in the background.
However, there is one detail about all of this that I don’t like, and that is Herbie’s eyes. In all of the movies, Herbie never had pupils in his headlights. That still looks creepy to me. Because for some reason a “living” car with no eyeballs is much more believable than one with eyeballs, I guess. Probably a minor point to most people, but that is what I think about it.
Also, if you look closely, especially at the first photo, you can see that Herbie is chained down from underneath. I guess they want to make sure that he does not drive off on his own to check out the other parts of the All-Star Movies Resort. Those Disney people think of everything!
Old Is Still Good
I feel like one theme for me lately is “Old is still good.” The older movies are still just as good as the newer movies. Different, maybe, but still good. The same goes for television shows. Most television shows, at least. Probably not all of them. Probably not all movies, either. But then not all of the newer ones are good, too.
The same goes for other older things, too. Don’t be dazzled by the new. Sometimes new things have some improvements, but other times they aren’t any better. Sometimes new things are just different, as I discussed in a recent post.
Change can definitely be nice sometimes. But it does not necessarily need to come at the expense of what actually works. Enjoy the new things, but look for the value in old things, too!
Oh, and by the way, the older I get, the more I realize that applies to people, too.

About the Photos
As you may know if you read some of those other All-Star Movies Resort posts, I spent some time one evening wandering around the grounds with my camera and tripod. These photos were from that night. The tripod helped to get these nice long-exposure photos well after the sun had gone down. It was a fun little exercise in night photography since there were so many good subjects there. I could practice at home, but our house might start to look a little boring after a while.
