Must Be Santa From Steve's Sketchbook

The Man with the Bag

Even though Santa looks different each time we see him, we always know that it is him, such as in the latest from Steve’s Sketchbook.

Santa Claus himself is the latest subject to grace the virtual pages of Steve’s Sketchbook.

No matter how he looks, you can always recognize Santa. He looks different just about every time you see him. He even looks different here than he does in the previous Santa Claus artwork that I shared. Maybe it is the red suit and white beard, but everyone knows who he is.

And perhaps the reason that everyone recognizes Santa Claus is that everyone likes him. Everyone wants to be his friend. Maybe not little kids who cry when having their photos taken with him, but they get over that after a few years, usually.

Laura’s performing arts classes this year did some mini-programs using the song “Must Be Santa”. Each class performed the song in a slightly different way. Some had props, some had choreography, and so on. If you are familiar with the song, you know how it describes the basics of Santa Claus and when you see those you know it must be Santa. That song pretty much sums up how we always know him when we see him.

So this must be Santa. He is a pretty big deal, after all.

Bible Verse

And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn. - Luke 2:6-7

About the Artwork

So why does this Santa look different than the last one? I was going for a different style here than what I had done before. Just continuing to play around with art styles and such. This one uses some bold outlines, while the last one had no outlines at all. Different things done at different times.

Plus, while the last one had a more developed background, I did not spend as much time on this one and just went with a more generic background. But that way, Santa does not almost get lost among the background, so this works good in my opinion.
