Pop Century Bowling Pin Pool

Pop Century Bowling Pin Pool at Walt Disney World

The sun was rising on the Bowling Pin pool in the 1950s section of the Pop Century Resort at Walt Disney World. You can’t tell from this view that the pool was shaped like a bowling pin, but it was. And you can sort of tell that the deck areas around the pool resemble bowling lanes if you look closely. Another nice touch is the small building just underneath where the sun is coming up resembles a large bowling shoe rack. I really liked the light from the sun at this particular moment, so that is why I chose to take this photo.

As you can see, one lone swimmer was out enjoying the water. I have no idea who he was, but my theory is that it was his day to check out and he had been bummed by not being able to swim on the previous day due to all the rain from Tropical Storm Andrea passing over (which had kept us from swimming as well). So he was determined to get some time in the pool, even if it was first thing in the morning before he had to head to the airport to catch his flight back home.

Either that, or he was self-conscious about his body and wanted to be seen by as few people as possible while he was at the pool. If that is the case, sorry about getting you in my photo and sharing it with the world, buddy. I’ll do better next time.
