What I Am Thankful For - 2017 Edition

It is that time of year again. The time when people of the United States remember to stop and be thankful for something. My answer to the question of what I am thankful for hasn’t changed any over the past several years, actually. But if you need a reminder of what it is, here you go:

Laura and Jaylin at the All Southwest Chorus Concert

Yes, Laura and Jaylin once again top the list of what I am most thankful for. And I am sure that will continue to be the case for the rest of my days. Because what would life be without your family?

Of course, that could expand out even farther, too. My extended family, Laura’s family, our church family, friends who are like family. Who says that real family can only be the people you are blood related to? Not that anything is wrong with blood relatives, of course. But there are lots of other great people out there in the world, too.

As with last year’s Thanksgiving post, this photo was taken right after Jaylin sang in the All-Southwest Honor Choir concert the weekend before Thanksgiving. He had tried out for the chorus a few weeks earlier, and once again he was quite happy to be included in those who were selected. I’m sure that had nothing to do with missing a day of school, either.

Even though we have a dedicated holiday set aside for Thanksgiving, remember to give thanks to God for all He has blessed you with all year long. After all, you don’t just get to enjoy those blessings for one day. You get to enjoy them all the time. Therefore, you should be thankful for them all the time, right?

If you have a thankful attitude every day, you will realize more and more just how blessed you are. You will not take things for granted as often. And you will learn even more to enjoy what you have while you have it, knowing that nothing lasts forever.

So be thankful for what you have. A thankful heart will make your life even better.

Rejoice always! Pray constantly. Give thanks in everything, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. - 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
