Walt Disney Theatre Lobby on the Disney Dream

The Walt Disney Theatre

Walt Disney Theatre Lobby on the Disney Dream

The main lobby of the Walt Disney Theatre is filled with light on the Disney Dream cruise ship, as seen during our 2017 Disney Cruise. Watching over it all is a large photo of some guy. Of curse, that guy just happens to be Walt Disney. I suppose that explains why the theatre is named after him. And why the cruise ship is named after him, too.

To me, this theatre lobby is always a bright space. There are all kinds of cove and accent lights throughout the space, along with the lighted entryways at the nearby shops. All of that light reflects well off of the highly polished stone tiles that make up the floor, too.

All of that light always makes for a cool photo opportunity for me. And I almost caught it without any people around. There were just the two sitting on the bench to the left of Walt, and they are almost not noticeable when you first look at the photo. Nice.

Walt Who?

I briefly mentioned it up above, but do you ever stop and think just how many things in Disney carry the Disney name? I guess that goes to their branding strategy. They have worked hard over many years to build up the Disney name, so why not make sure everyone knows something good is Disney.

Of course, that is not always the case. They tried to build some non-Disney brands in the 1980s and 1990s with Touchstone Pictures and Hollywood Pictures, when they made some movies that did not quite fit the Disney brand. But those labels are almost forgotten now. Instead, these days they have Lucasfilm and Marvel, and they haven’t yet resorted to adding the Disney name in front of them, so that they would be Disney’s Marvel or Disney’s Lucasfilm. But most people know that Disney owns those companies anyway, so maybe the extra name is not necessary.

But just think about it. There is Disneyland, Walt Disney World, the Disney Cruise Line, the Disney Channel, Disney Stores, Radio Disney, and so on. Also, most of the hotels at Walt Disney World have Disney in their names, such as Disney’s Contemporary Resort, although most people do not bother to call them that.

I guess if you have a good name, you might as well use it.

Interesting Thought

How different would the world be today if that Walt guy had been named something like Smith instead of Disney?

Bible Verse

A good name is to be chosen over great wealth; favor is better than silver and gold. - Proverbs 22:1

About the photo

I already mentioned the light above, but that is one of my favorite things about this photo. Also, there are lots of curves throughout the lobby, so that the curves added by the fisheye lens do not seem out of place.

I did do some slightly heavier than usual processing on this one to bring out the textures in the floor and also to highlight the light reflections a bit more. However, to me it does not come across as looking unnatural, so that’s a good thing.
