Happy Independence Day from Uncle Sam, aka Mobius the Goat

All American Goat

Uncle Sam wishes you a happy American Independence Day. Yes, that is actually Mobius the Goat, but he likes being patriotic.

Uncle Sam wishes you a happy American Independence Day. Yes, that is actually Mobius the Goat, but he likes being patriotic. And he takes his holiday very seriously, as you can see by the look on his face. Here’s hoping you have a happy July 4!

Also, do you know how hard it is to make a goat look like he is pointing when he does not have an index finger or a thumb? But take my word for it - he really is pointing his hoof at you. Apologies to James Montgomery Flagg for borrowing from his iconic Uncle Sam painting, by the way.

About the Artwork

I wanted to achieve something similar to the look of the original Uncle Sam painting as much as possible. That meant exploring a new style, which was fun to do. I’m no painter, but I like these results.

Actually, I started with a flat color version of Mobius like I would always do in Procreate on my iPad. But then I added a new layer and added lots of painter brush strokes to give it that classic painting look. And then I created the background by using more of those brush strokes, all using a painting brush in Procreate.

Now to work on having ideas like this in a more timely manner for the next holiday. I should start planning now.

Bible Verse

For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery. - Galatians 5:1
