Prince Eric's Castle in Fantasyland

Prince Eric’s Castle in Fantasyland at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom

From the new Fantasyland addition at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom comes this photo of Prince Eric’s castle in the seaside village of, um, what was the name of that place again? What do you mean it didn’t have a name?

When working on The Little Mermaid, the Disney animators missed a big marketing opportunity by not giving the village a name. Oceanside? Ocean View? City by the Sea? Or something. And just what is Prince Eric the prince of? Does his kingdom have a name? Just think, you know movie places like Pandora, Middle Earth, Hogwarts, Toontown, Agrabah, and so on, and you know what movies they came from. Wouldn’t you love to have a sweatshirt emblazoned with the slogan, “I Visited Prince Eric’s Seaside Village of (Whatever its name would be)?” Those would be big sellers in the parks, right up there with Duffy and those light-up Mickey ears. Or maybe not.

I’m sure not giving a name to the village, or even the kingdom that it is in, makes it seem more timeless and fairy-tale-like. Or something.

But I would still like to know where it is.

Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever; a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom. - Psalm 45:6
