A Bridge Over Still Water

Reflections

Maybe you have heard that song about a bridge over troubled water. You know, the one by Simon and Garfunkel. Well, here we have the complete opposite because it is a bridge over still water. No trouble at all in this water. Except maybe for a few fish below the surface waiting for bugs to land so that the fish can have a little snack. Troubled water for the bugs, perhaps, but not for the rest of us.

This photo was not a day of trouble for us, either. We were enjoying a nice autumn visit to Big Hill Pond State Park in Tennessee. The trails were nice, the weather was nice, and the views such as this one were spectacular. I particularly liked how this bridge (seen in another photo shared here previously) was reflected in the still water of the lake. And I liked how the leaves that were beginning to show their fall colors were reflected as well.

If you have been to many lakes of any size at all, you know that the water is often not this smooth. So I made sure to get a photo of it to remember it by.

Just another reminder of a nice day that we enjoyed.

More Adventures?

You may have noticed lately that the recent photos posted here were from past adventures and not anything new. That is because we haven’t had many adventures lately.

Yes, we have had the usual adventures around the house. You never know what sort of things might come up there. And we had lots of fun over the Christmas holidays. Those are good kinds of adventures, too.

But as for going somewhere, November and December were way too busy. And so far, January has been way too cold. I like to be outside, but I also like to be able to feel my fingers and toes while I am outside. So new adventures will have to wait until later on. Which is fine. Fortunately, there are still lots of photos from our past adventures to share here. Just in case you thought you might get a break from all of this fun. That is the value of taking lots and lots of photos whenever we go anywhere. You can thank me later.

About the photo

For this photo, I switched from my normal fisheye lens to a more standard zoom lens. We were far across the lake from the bridge, and it would have gotten lost as a tiny line with the fisheye lens. But with the zoom lens, I was still able to fill the frame with the bridge, the trees, and the lake.

In processing, I gave the photo a bit of an aged look. Sort of. To start with, I made the sky really, really blue. That way, it would still keep a bit of its blue when I desaturated the colors. I also worked with the tones to bring out the fall colors a bit more.

So far, each of the Big Hill Pond photos I have shared has had a somewhat different look. I like that.
