Fort Wilderness Beach at Walt Disney World

Quiet Beach

When I stayed at Fort Wilderness with my grandparents back in the 1980s, the Fort Wilderness Beach was always a happening place. There was always lots of activity there along with lots of noise. It was a good kind of noise because it was the noise of people splashing and playing in the water.

In fact, for our first visit or two, the beach was the only place at Fort Wilderness to swim. They did add a couple of swimming pools in the late 1980s, so that gave some other swimming options for those who might not have wanted to swim in Bay Lake. But swimming at the beach was still allowed for a while.

Some years ago, they put an end to beach swimming at the Disney resorts due to fears of bacteria in the water. And then just a few years ago they closed off the beaches for swimming entirely by putting up ropes all along the shoreline, due to an alligator attack at one resort. So now you can still go to the beach and see the water. You just can’t swim in it. That’s the world we live in today, I guess.

At least they did not rip out the beach entirely so that you still do have some nice views of Bay Lake.

Changes

Change is always happening all the time. I can want things to stay exactly the same as they were when I was a teenager, but I have lived long enough to know that it won’t happen that way.

Opinions change. Tastes change. Technologies change. Safety concerns change. Consumers change. And that last one is probably the biggest driving factor, because so many things are all about the money that people will spend.

But then there are other changes, too. Seasons change. People change. And by that I mean physically, because I am not quite the same as I was when I was a teenager, no matter how much I might try to convince myself otherwise. Or just look at any movie or television star going to great lengths to try to look the same that they did 30 or 40 years ago. I know you can think of at least a few.

So no matter how we try to fight it, ignore it, or avoid it, change will happen.

What should you do about change? Don’t fight it. Embrace it. Learn from it. Accept it. Grow. Learn. Improve. And support others who do the same.

Bible Verse

So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal. - 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

About the Photo

This particular day on which I took this photo was very gray and overcast. But that doesn’t mean the photo has to be dull and boring!

Thanks to Aurora HDR, the sky here looks quite interesting. Maybe I overdid it just a little, but I like the excitement that it gives. And I like the greens of the trees and the Spanish moss on them, too. This scene turned out well, even if it is much different than the original photo.
